700-800 lb Marlin
Friday was just one of those days that does not happen to often. We started the day off with 4 tuna right off the bat then along came the Monster Blue. He swam around the boat like he was the biggest baddest thing in the gulf. Nothing was going to scare him away, he just kept doing laps around the boat like a hungry pit bull looking for a piece of meat, and that’s just what he got! I had a 500ld leader rigged up and it did not take long to tie it on the 50w, i tossed the big blue a big hardtail but it had no interest in it what so ever, not having anything else in the boat but a dead 70lb tuna i asked my customers if they wanted to sacrifice a tuna they said Heck Yea! So out the boat the tuna went and within 30 seconds the monster grabbed the tuna from right under the boat and swam off, I gave it a 30 count and figured if it did not have the bait down its throat by now it wasn’t going to happen. I came tight and off to the races the big girl went striping off 200 yards in the first run, she stayed deep for the first twenty mins then came up to the surface and put on a awesome show, after about an hour on the rod Andy had the fish boat side, it was hard to get a good measurement on the fish bc she was still green and full of life so i cut the line while the fish was still kicking and we watched her swim off to live another day.
The fish was 12-13 ft long and pretty darn fat. Not ever seeing a marlin that big makes it hard to get an exact weight but some old salts that saw pics said it possibly could of been a grander but we will never really know, it was definitely a fish of a lifetime. you can see all the pics by clicking on the picture tab at the top but here are a just a few.
Sat capt Scott fished behind the shrimp boats and had a pile of blacks and saw some big yellas. I decided to stay away from the crowd and fish the floaters, we ended the day with 4 nice yellas 2 wahoo and 3 mahi.
Sunday i ran an overnight trip and we crushed them catching 13 yellas by midnight.
The fishing is getting great, the big tunas were caught behind the shrimp boats this past week so it will not be long before it is wide open.
We still have some week ends and plenty week days open so give me a call if your looking to catch some fish.
