May 5-7 Report
After two weeks of being blown out we were finally able to make it offshore. Thursday was pretty good. I only had one customer on board. Tuna was the target so we ran out about 30 miles and it was on. We ended the day with 4 yellow fin 1 wahoo and 1 aj. Friday the weatherman messed up the forecast calling for 1-2 ft it was more like 4 ft but that did not stop us. We made bait and started fishing. Pretty slow at the first stop so we headed further out. It was not long before we were hooked up. We put two fish in the boat and the bite shut off so we ran out another 15 miles and it was on we put 7 more yellas in the boat ranging from 60-100 lbs. Saturday I decided to leave early and it paid off again. Made it to the rig about 30 after sunrise. Live bait was pretty easy to catch. Started fishing and it was on fire. In three hours everyone on board landed a good size tuna with the biggest going 100lbs. We left the tuna biting and went to look for the rip. The grass was pretty scattered and made it hard to fish so we changed gears and went grouper fishing and found two nice scamp and an aj and called it a day.
The way things are looking it will be a great summer. The blue water is only 12 miles out the rip lines are already here, the tuna are 20-30 lbs bigger than they usually are this time of year. Some boats are reporting mahi already. In the next two weeks things should really kick off the n Red snapper season will be June 1st – July 18. We still have boats open for late may and June.
