NOW BOOKING TRIPS FOR WINTER TUNA FISHING

The winter lump season is upon us again.That means its time for the big trophy tuna and wahoo. We will also be targeting  blackfin tuna, mako sharks and amberjack and grouper starting Febuary 1st..
 
We plan on running the 32 Twin Vee Cat,31 Albemarle, the 36 Yellowfin and 31 Gravois Cat. The cost will be1200$+fuel(est$300)for a day for up to 6 anglers,  and as always we will clean you catch for free.
 
We are hoping to see fewer boats this year on the lump and better fishing..Best fish of last year for each species were a 104 pound wahoo, 500+ pound mako shark and 230 pound yellowfin.We averaged 5 yellowfin and 8 blackfin per trip for the month of Febuary..seems the best tuna bite was in early February and again in March when the bigger fish arrived..we had 20 fish over 150 pounds last Winter..don’t ask about the ones that got away..Wahoo fishing was better during late January and early February last year when we had days with 12 or more fish..Still fishing is consistent from January through March. Historically, the best wahoo fishing has been the weeks around the superbowl – but it really coincides to the days following the first two hard freezes..something about a serious cold snap that gangs them up in schools off the river..Mako’s come and go as the big tuna come and go, but most of our mako bites came in February.
 
There will be a variety of accommodations available this season ..these range in price from 350$ for our lodge(that’s the whole lodge for your group), 150$ for 6 man cabin at Venice marina. You are always welcome to drve in the morning of the trip and meet us just before sun-up. Just be sure to show up on time with a fishing license (5$ for out of staters), food and drinks and a spare cooler!!
