Oil Spill
Just a quick note on the spill..
WE ARE STILL IN THE FISHING BUSINESS
Just too many unknowns..east side of the river is closed to fishing and boat traffic as precaution..That leaves Tiger Pass and the whole west side of the river and MS Canyon to fish.
We are all looking to getting part time cleanup jobs running as many charters on the days when weather cooperates..currenty experiencing a massive cancallation from the ensuing bad news and panic created by the media..
Hunter has trips next week he intends to run..hopefully he goes out and whacks the fish..
Lawyers swarming Venice dressed like fisherman looking for class action litigants..thankfully the source is 50 miles offshore so most of the VOC and aromatics will evaporate in the 80 deg heat leaving a tar beads and emulsion..right now thr large area you are hearing about is primarily a thin sheen near the coast right now..can smell the aromatics in NO yesterday..
High east winds will hamper cleanup and any oil that makes it to the shoreline will be burned off intentionally..you can only kill marsh grass by eroding the banks..once burned the green shoots will retun withing weeks..
MS River Delta will survive not allowing any oil to reach the interior marshes vital to so many species of fish..
People forget how many oil tankers were sunk in the Gulf by Uboats during WWII in fact the beaches of Grand Isle to Cameron were thick with oil for most of the war..some 56 tankers were sunk in the Gulf with little cleanup..
The people and fish will always survive because they are resiliant..
Obviosuly this is terrible accident with one in a billion chance of happening..never heard of a well kicking during casing/completion phase..
Vencie charerboat captains attended a meeting with NOAA last night and questions pertaining to how the govt expected them to survive if the close all fisheries were brushed off..To my knowledge the closure is only in affect to the east side of the river..
Guulf stream currents are predominantly from the SW winds from the South so we dont expect the area SW of Venice to be adversly affected..the ocean is vast and the solution to pollution is dilution..
If you have a trip scheduled and want to cnacel please send us an email stating why and we will gladly oblige..if youwant to come fish then we are glad to take you..
I dont trust the media and I suspect there is much speculation to this point..panic creates momentum inthemarkets and sells add space..
just my 2 cents..Hunter wacked the yellowfins last week too..
Here is a link to a story written by some guys fishing the rig at the time of the accident..dont know who they are but I included a copy of it in the comments in case it gets taken down..
