Winter Tuna and Makos are Here (report)

Weather was more on the rough side on Wednesday but with the winter tuna run heating up it was well worth the butt kicking. Both Treyand I went out. I started the day going 0-3 on wahoo loosing a 50 lber right on side the boat. It was noon and all we had was a bunch kings and bonito. My my how things change like a light switch. First a few bf came thru the slick than all of a sudden 4 big yellas roll thru. With only 3 coustumers and a mate on the boat we hooked all 4 tunas and the fun began. The mate was the first to bring in his fish in only 5 mins. Than a 200 lb mako shows up.He bit the tail off of Bobs fish but we were still able to land his tuna. I grabed a mako rig and hooked up the mako. At this point we had two tuna and a mako hooked up. We got the mako boat side and shot him. Landed the two other tuna and called it a day. We ended the day with four yellas (70-90)lbs and a 200 lb mako.
Trey was fishing right next to me was pretty much the same story. Nothing but kings. Than bammmmm he hooks a 400 lb mako got one good jump out of him and than faught the fish for anothr 30 mins and lands it. By this time i was headed back to the barn, Trey stayed out there for another hour and wore out the 20lb blackfins he saw some 150 class fish but said the blackfins were so thick he could not get past them. He did manage two 90lb yellas.
Well it looks like the winter tuna are here and it is only going to get better. The big fish were here all Feb and March last year. If only this weather could calm down it should be a great month. We still have some days open for Feb. Hope to have some more great reports once the weather clears.
